About the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba

Your Opportunity to Make
A Difference...

The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba is a public foundation that manages a growing endowment fund that exceeds $70 million. Since its inception, the Foundation has distributed more than $30 million in grants and scholarships in the local community and across Canada.

The Foundation Helps You Create a Lasting Legacy

The Foundation provides opportunities to realize your philanthropic dreams in strengthening and supporting the Jewish and general communities of Manitoba.

Your gift to the Foundation will sustain and enhance myriad programs, services and charitable agencies across the province and ensure a strong and viable future for all Manitobans. Your gift to the Foundation will be your lasting legacy.

The Foundation will work closely with you to match your philanthropic goals with community needs. The Foundation provides careful and thoughtful leadership in the community, promotes dialogue, builds partnerships, and connects generations. It will ensure your gift will have maximum impact.

All gifts to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba are invested in perpetuity. Each year, the income from these gifts is returned to the community in the form of scholarships and grants to charitable organizations, community programs and projects.

Our Mission

The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, in keeping with our Jewish heritage and values, encourages and facilitates the creation and growth of endowment funds to enable the community to realize its potential. The Foundation maintains effective stewardship over all assets entrusted to it; distributes grants that reflect donors’ wishes and community priorities; and provides leadership in the Jewish and general communities.

How We Operate

The Foundation has always operated under the mandate to receive capital gifts, which remain intact in perpetuity, invest them, and then distribute the annual income back to the local community, as well as to national and Israeli causes. The income supports an array of organizations and individuals involved in:
  • Education
  • Arts and Culture
  • Health and Social Services
  • Jewish life
  • Recreation
  • Religion
Donors can direct the income from their funds to designated causes or they may choose to have the Foundation disperse the proceeds where they are most needed, in the form of grants or scholarships. There are various types of funds administered by the Foundation, which allow the donors flexibility and creativity in making their philanthropic decisions. Prudent investment policies ensure that the distribution potential of each and every fund is maximized.

Low Administration Costs Ensure Maximum Charitable Support

The Foundation’s excellent fund management expertise, return-on-investment performance and efficient management costs deliver maximum community support each year. The Foundation allocates a small portion of its portfolio for management costs and reinvests part of the income earned from funds each year to maintain value relative to the rate of inflation.
