The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba is pleased to name Jordan Sloshower as the 2008 recipient of its prestigious Mark and Dorothy Danzker Scholarship.
The $10,000 scholarship is presented annually to a student in the Jewish community entering a post-graduate program who has demonstrated academic excellence combined with volunteerism.
The scholarship honours the memory of philanthropist and former Winnipeg city councillor Mark Danzker and his wife, Dorothy.
Jordan will be attending Yale University in the fall of 2008, where he will begin training for a Doctor of Medicine. Jordan also plans to pursue a Master of Public Health.
"Jordan is one of our very best and brightest," says George Fulford, Professor at the Univeristy of Winnipeg. "He has the heart of an athlete, the soul of a poet and the keen mind of a scientist."
Jordan is committed to improving the world around him - pursuing the path of social justice through medicine. "These are issues that I feel passionate about," he says. "While I cannot profess that I will 'save the world,' I can assure you that I will never be discouraged by the belief that there is nothing one person can do against the enormous array of the world's ills, misery, ignorance and violence."
Jordan is thrilled to receive the Mark and Dorothy Danzker Scholarship. "Thank you to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba for believing in me. Your support not only helps me financially, but it also invigorates me with the knowledge that my goals are laudable, which increases my determination to continue pursuing these objectives."
