Mona Gray Creative Arts Scholarship
Music To Her Ears

    Catherine Daniel with Debbie Gray

Catherine Daniel has been awarded the 2008 Mona Gray Creative Arts Scholarship at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.

The $5,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a Bachelor Degree graduate of a Manitoba institution who is pursuing graduate studies in fine arts, music, theatre, dance, film, photography or creative writing.

Catherine will be attending the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal for an intensive three-year apprenticeship that will prepare her for the physical and psychological demands of the opera world.

She is the ideal recipient of the Mona Gray Creative Arts Scholarship, having maintained a high standard of excellence in her field and representing her community exceptionally well.

"Cathy has that indescribable 'it' factor," says Tracy Dahl, her voice teacher. "Every professional with whom she has been in contact, be it in music competitions or young artist programs, notes this characteristic in her".

Her goal is to travel across Canada, the United States and possibly Europe, performing in opera productions and orchestral concerts. "I am not sure where this journey will take me, however, the generous support from the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba will allow me to pursue this incredible opportunity to learn and grow as an artist as well as an individual".
