Education Award Guidelines
For Manitoba residents ONLY or former Manitobans who have been out of the province no longer than four years.
Deadline: March 31
To be eligible for a Jewish Foundation of Manitoba Education award for general studies, an applicant:
- Must be Jewish; and
- Must be applying for, have been accepted into, or be currently enrolled in, a university, college or other
- post-graduate program with preference given to persons studying at a Manitoba educational insitution; and
- Must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the selection committee that they are in need of financial assistance in order to pursue the program*; and
- Must not, at the time the application is submitted, be a high school student unless extreme financial need can be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the selection committee**. If applying at a high school level, please use the High School Graduate Awards application form.
Assuming the applicant meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the following criteria will be used by the selection committee in recommending an award:
| High School Graduate Awards |
To be eligible for a Jewish Foundation of Manitoba High School Bursary, an applicant:
- Must be Jewish; and
- Must be applying for or have been accepted into any post-secondary institution in Manitoba; and
- Must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the selection committee that they are in need of financial assistance in order to pursue the program*; and
- Must submit copies of their parents' tax returns with their application.
Assuming the applicant meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the following criteria will be used by the selection committee in recommending an award:
Sharon Home Family Education Award
For Children/Dependents of Sharon Home Employees
Friends of the Sharon Home established this award to help children/dependents of
long-service employees of the Sharon Home to pursue a post-secondary education. The award is based on financial need, academic achievement and community involvement.
Deadline: February 28 *NEW*
George Finkle Memorial Scholastic Bursary Award
For High School Graduates
Applicants must be Jewish, Manitoba residents, and graduating from Grade 12 at any high school in the Province of Manitoba. They must be applying for, or accepted into, a post-secondary institution in Manitoba and must demonstrate financial need.
Deadline: March 31
Grosberg Family Judaic Studies/Hebrew Teacher's Award
For Judaic Studies/Hebrew Teachers
Applicants must teach Judaic Studies/Hebrew in Winnipeg. The award (up to $5,000) is towards study in a post-graduate program or recognized and approved program in Judaic Studies/Hebrew that leads to enhancing the Judaic Studies/Hebrew curriculum of the school or the teaching practice of the teacher.
Deadline: February 28 *NEW*
| Judaic Studies and/or Studies in Israel |
To be eligible for a Jewish Foundation of Manitoba Education award for Judaic and/or Israel studies, an applicant:
- Must be applying for, have been accepted into, or be currently enrolled in, a university, college, post-graduate or summer program in Judaic and/or an educational institution in Israel; and
- Must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the selection committee that they are in need of financial assistance in order to pursue the program*; and
- Must not, at the time the application is submitted, be a high school student unless extreme financial need can be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the selection committee**.
- Summer programs will be considered but are low priority.
Assuming the applicant meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the following criteria will be used by the selection committee in recommending an award:
- Financial need
- Academic achievement
- Involvement in the Jewish community
- Volunteer activity in the Jewish and/or General community
- The nature and length of the program to which the applicant has applied or been accepted
* The selection committee may require information above and beyond that provided in the application in order to confirm financial need. If required, the applicant will be notified.
** Applicants for JFM Education awards who are currently in high school must submit copies of their parents' tax returns with their application.

Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship
Deadline: February 28 *NEW*
$10,000 per year awarded to one person.*
To be eligible for the Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship, an applicant:
- Must be Jewish; and
- Must be a full-time student entering or enrolled in a post-graduate degree program with preference given to persons studying at a Manitoba educational institution.
Assuming the applicant meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the following criteria will be used by the selection committee in recommending an award:
- Academic achievement
- Financial need
- Involvement in the Jewish community
Mona Gray Creative Arts Scholarship
For Artists Pursuing Graduate Studies
Applicants must be a Bachelors Degree graduate of a Manitoba university and be pursuing graduate studies in one of the following areas: creative writing, film, fine arts, music, theatre, dance, or photography. This is a $5,000 award based on artistic merit, financial need, community involvement and academic achievement.
Deadline: February 28 *NEW*
$5,000 per year awarded to one person.*
To be eligible for the Mona Gray Creative Arts Scholarship, an applicant:
- Must be a Bachelors Degree graduate of a Manitoba University; and
- Must be pursuing graduate studies within or outside the Province of Manitoba in one of the following areas: creative writing; film; fine arts; music; theatre; dance; photography; and
- Must not be a prior recipient of this scholarship
Assuming the applicant meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the following criteria will be used by the selection committee in awarding an Education award:
- Artistic Achievement
- Financial Need
- Community and/or Volunteeer Involvement
- Academic Achievement
*The Foundation Education award Committee reserves the right not to award these scholarships each year and to request an interview for any of these awards.

For University/College Students
"Ruth & Joe Freed" Academic Excellence Awards For General or Judaic/Israel Studies
Awarded to Jewish students who have excelled academically in university or college studies. Deadline: February 28 *NEW*
To be eligible for an Academic Excellence award, an applicant:
- Must be Jewish; and
- Must have completed or are in the process of completing a year of university/college within the current calendar year;
- Must NOT have previously received a "Ruth & Joe Freed Academic Excellence Award"; and
- Must NOT have received an education award from the Jewish Foundation during the current calendar year.
Assuming the applicant meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the following criteria will be used by the selection committee in recommending an award:
- Consistent excellence in academic achievement
- Demonstrated commitment to the Jewish community
- Volunteer activity in the Jewish and/or General community
NOTE: The DEADLINE for this award is March 31, however; the applications will not be considered until final marks for the current academic year have been received.
*The Foundation Education award Committee reserves the right not to award these scholarships each year and to request an interview for any of these awards.
